We were happy to see 62 anglers ready to compete on Saturday morning. Things started off with a shotgun start just outside of the Bay Point Marina channel markers. As the boats turned the corner the 20 to 25mph southeast winds hit everyone in the face and didn't let up the rest of the day. At the weigh-in there were a lot of reports floating around the dock about located fish that were no longer in the same areas or fish that were replaced by miniature versions of the previous day's catches. Out of 32 boats only 11 teams brought back weighable fish, and they were happy to have them. The winning weight was brought in by club new comers Jason Melvin and Brian Buffington who weighed two fish totaling 10lb 1oz. They took home the Panama City trophy, along with a pair of Guideline sunglasses and a full engine service certificate from Harts Marine and a No Doubt Fish Rule. Jason and Brian also took the Elite Series prize of $450 in cash for largest aggregate weight. Congratulations to Jason and Brian! Second place was awarded to Pete Turner and Fred Myers of Panama City. Their total weight was 7lbs 10oz. They took home two $25 gift certificates to Lime's Bayside Bar & Grill, complements of Bay Point Resort and Marina, a full engine service certificate, complements of the Ships Chandler in Destin, FL and a No Doubt Fish Rule. Jim Jimenez and Mike Schweppe took third place with a weight of 7lbs 5oz. They received a couple ECRC t-shirts and a No Doubt Fish Rule. Captain Jim Whitaker and son James took home the Elite Series prize of $450 in cash for the single heaviest redfish. Congratulations to all the anglers and thank you for making it a great tournament even though the weather did not cooperate. Join us for the next event in Pensacola Beach on March 28th!
