BRAD KING- ECRC News
With the 2009 season winding down, and the “Team of the Year”
points race a close one. The final stop of the regular season at
Blue Water Bay Marina in Niceville would prove to be as close an
outcome as anyone could hope for.
With winds out of the North at 15 kts or better, air temps in the
low 50's and early water temps in the upper 60's finding a
tournament winning bag of fish would prove to be a challenge.
Several teams decided to stay fairly close to the launch reporting
shorelines full of hungry reds. Teams Jimenez/Coughlin and
Wes/Blake Nelson reported finding large concentrations of hungry
reds in shallow clear water. The few teams that made the long run
East to Panama City also found plenty of fish. Team
Gilbert/Johnson were one of those teams and also scored the
ECRC's first sight casted mullet of the year. Way to go Curtis!!!!
Neither the large numbers of fish near Niceville or the difficult fish
to the East seemed to effect Team Alan Chase/Larry Thompson
who won the event with a healthy 10.82 lb aggregate. Followed
closely by two of our very own Redfish Cup Touring pro's Team
Joey Sostheim/Jake Matney brought 9.83 lbs to the scales to
secure second place. Rounding out the top three. Was local
favorites and local guides Team Nelson. Consisting of Wes Nelson
and Blake (Golden Child) Nelson who secured a third place finish
with a 9.03 lb aggregate.
The ECRC would like to extend a huge Thank You to the Blue
Water Bay Marina for being so hospitable and to all of our
tournament sponsors for making this possible. The final stop of
the season and club championship will be held in Panama City
next month and should prove to be a shoot out. See you all in
P.C!!!
