2010 March ECRC Navarrrrrrrrrrrrrrre

WOW. Not really much of a way to describe the ECRC March Navarre
Tournament in one word other than just, WOW. Not only did the March
Navarre Tournament set the new benchmark as the Emerald Coast
Redfish Club's largest event, it was said by many of the participating
anglers that it was the best, and most well executed tournament they ever
fished.

The day started out as normal, with Check in at the Half Hitch location in
Navarre, but not long into the check in, we got to the 30 boat mark and
ended it at 32. The number draw for the start was in jeopardy of being out
of numbers, due to the bag only had chips that numbered to 35. Many
thanks to Half Hitch not only for a great tackle shop, but providing ECRC
with a Great location to check the ECRC anglers in. The Navarre
tournament was also play by play documented by Michael Bloodworth.
Michael is a writer for Coastal Angler magazine, and boarded and rode as
a guest with the South Again Team, of Brad King and Tony Coughlin.
After Check in, the numbered start went off like clockwork, and We are
OFF.

The day started out with a breeze directly out of the east and it was
forecast to turn southeast by midmorning. As the morning progressed
the breeze turned to a strong wind and effected the plans of many teams
forcing them to shoot from the hip and go more with gut instinct instead
of staying with the A, B, C, D spot plan, that they started the day with.
Protected water was not only harder to find than it was expected to be, it
was not where it was expected to be either. Most teams seemed to adapt
to the unexpected conditions extremely well, and find fish even in the
changing conditions.

At 3:00pm almost the complete field gathered at Jauna's on the sound in
Navarre for the weigh in. Jauna's Pagodas provided an excellent location
and made an incredible host for the Weigh In as well as the Awards Party.
Also at the Awards Party were Angler Tube Staff, Coastal Angler
Magazine Editors and Writers, Alluring Creations Jewelry Designer, Lane
Guess and of course Mandy the Wonderful Host from Juana's Pagodas.

Out of the field of 32 boats 14 teams returned to the scales and weighed
fish. After the smoke cleared at the best weigh in I have ever witnessed,
the Death Sled Team of Jason Johnson and Chase Bryant nailed down
the 4 spot with two fish and 6.35lbs. The 3 spot was strongly held by the
Team Nelson, Blake and Wes weighed two fish and run the scales up to
8.41lbs. Second place was with a strong weight of 11.33lbs, was the
"Always a Contender" team of Ken Cube and Mike Patterson. Top Spot
was the Team to Beat with 11.62lbs in two fish that were brought the
scales by Alan Chase and Fred Myers and they took the Win.

Overall the Navarre tournament was a GREAT Event. I heard several
anglers that claimed that it was the most fun event they have ever fished
barring none.
The next stop in the Emerald Coast Redfish Club Series will be in
Niceville Florida on May 1st. Host for this event will be North light Yacht
Club. We hope to see everyone there.

Good Wind, Good Light, and Tight Lines,
